Difference Between AIDS and Malaria (With Table)

There is a variety of diseases in the world causing several deaths and patients. Among those, there is AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), and Malaria which come under fatal diseases. Sometimes late treatment of these diseases led to the death of a person. AIDS and malaria are two different types of diseases, in which AIDS is more dangerous.

AIDS vs Malaria

The main difference between AIDS and malaria is that AIDS is caused by the deficiency of immune in a body because of a virus known as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). On the other hand, malaria is caused by the Plasmodium parasite. A person will face high fever, shaking chills and feels very restless.

Difference Between AIDS and Malaria

AIDS is a chronic disease and sometimes led to death. AIDS means that a person has a deficient immune system. The causing virus that is HIV is spread through unsafe sex, contact with the blood of an infected person, used injection syringes, etc. Once a person is affected with AIDS it cannot be cured although medication can be provided to slow down the effect of the virus.

Malaria is an acute disease and can be cured by taking proper drugs and medication. Malaria is spread by the bite of the infected Anopheles mosquitoes. Once a person sees the symptoms of malaria then immediately reach to doctor or nearby hospital. The doctor will diagnose the disease properly and will give the right medication.

What is AIDS?

AIDS is a life-threatening disease, even now researchers, scientists and doctors had not found the permanent treatment of this disease. It is a harmful disease. It is always advised by doctors to keep proper precautions such as the use of condoms for sexual intercourse, changing needles of injection and shaving blade after every use, and maintaining distance from an infected person.

AIDS is categorised into four different stages. In the first stage, a person will have a continuous fever and swollen body parts time and again. While some people who are infected will or may not show any symptoms. In the second stage, a person will show recurring airway infections, and genital lesions may often occur with the lesion of skin and mouth.

In the third stage, AIDS will almost attack a person’s body very badly and will face tuberculosis in the lungs, excessive weight loss, prolonged diarrhoea as well as other serious infection such as meningitis. Finally, in the fourth stage, the whole nervous system will get affected by motor loss and AIDS-related diseases like dementia, etc.

Coming from the first stage to the last stage it might take 14 to 15 years and eventually result will be death, as it cannot be cured but medication it will give slight relief to a person who is infected with AIDS.

What is Malaria?

Malaria is a global health problem, it generally spread more in children under the age of 5, pregnant women and patients who are already infected with serious diseases like Diabetes, AIDS, etc. Generally, four types of malaria parasites can infect a person (Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium malariae).

When an infected anopheles mosquito bites a person the plasmodium flows in the blood and make the person ill which shows the symptoms of muscle pain, headaches, diarrhoea, shaking chills and high fever.

Malaria can be passed by an infected woman to her newborn baby this is called congenital malaria. Malaria is transmitted by blood hence can be spread through an organ transplant, used injection needles or transfusion.

Malaria symptoms begin to be visible within the weeks after the bite of an infected mosquito. Some types of malaria do not show symptoms until 2-3 months. Malaria can be diagnosed by blood tests and can also show which type of malaria a person is affected by.

Some tests take a time duration of the week while some can give the result within 15 minutes. After that doctor will provide the proper medication accordingly and it will be cured permanently within or after 2 weeks.

Main Differences Between AIDS and Malaria

  1. AIDS is a chronic disease while malaria is an acute disease.
  2. AIDS is happen due to HIV, which damages the immune system and Malaria is caused by plasmodium parasites giving a person high fever, muscle pain, headaches, etc.
  3. AIDS cannot be cured permanently even after medication. Malaria can be cured permanently with proper medication.
  4. AIDS can spread through the exchange of infected blood, while malaria cannot be spread, it is only caused by the bite of an infected mosquito.
  5. Generally, AIDS is most common in adults while Malaria is common in children.

Conclusion

AIDS is a lifetime disease hence an infected person also goes under stress and depression as it will disturb the whole lifestyle of a person. People have to change their diet accordingly, take medicines all the time, cannot visit everywhere. People don’t take proper precautions before any activity and later pay the price for their ignorance.

Some precautions can make you save from AIDS such as the use of condoms during sexual intercourse, changing injection syringes and shaving blades after every use. Also, the world celebrates AIDS day on 1 December every year to aware other people and young generations about AIDS and its causes.

For malaria, people ignore the bite of a mosquito. Some necessary precautions can be taken as using mosquitos repellent machines and creams, avoiding visiting places where the scope of malaria is high like the forests region also it is highly advised to keep children away from garbage areas and dirty places.

Also, the world celebrates malaria day on 25 April every year to aware other people and young generations about malaria and its causes.
